Why your hair might be shedding more than usual

Noticing a little more hair left in the brush than usual? Feel like you are seeing more scalp along your hair line? Below I will list the most common reasons I see hair loss in the salon and what you can do about it.

So first you need to decide what exactly is going on. Are you seeing spots of smooth scalp usually in a circular area? This is usually caused by intense stress but should definitely be assessed by a physician.

If you are having general thinning or a little more shedding than usual then one of the following could be the culprit.

  • Postpartum- I feel like this is a “duh” one but not everyone knows that this is a little bonus to your bundle of joy! Your body goes through a whirlwind on hormonal changes and can cause a shift in hair production specifically around the hairline. The best remedy for this is to add collagen peptide powder supplements to your daily routine.

  • New medication- You would not believe the list of medications that can cause hair loss, for real y’all. Some of these medications can also cause adverse reaction to haircolor as well but more uncommon. The best thing to solve this problem is discuss this with our Physician and see if their is an alternative medication otherwise sometimes the side effect can level off at some point. Those going through Infertility treatments are very likely to experience fluctuations with hair growth, loss and even texture of hair.

  • Anesthesia- This is one of those weird reactions that some unfortunate people have had. Best remedy for this is most likely going to be the collagen peptides…. I will refer to these a lot..

  • Hair product- Look, I am a huge fan of all natural products when it comes to deodorant and cleaning supplies but I am not sold on all natural hair care…yet… At some point I am sure that they will get it together but in my experience and those of my clients, I have not seen the best results. All natural products are not the only culprit here but trying something new in general can cause hair loss if you happen to be allergic to an ingredient. My sister actually had a very bad reaction to moroccan oil, where she experienced a TON of hair thinning. So read your labels and see if something new has been introduced into your daily routine.

  • Stress- This may feel like a cop out but it really is one of the most common causes of excess shedding. I am not sure if its the chemicals produced in your body or the fact that most stressed out people tend to unconsciously “play” with their hair be it twisting it around a finger or just obsessively running their hands through it, the damage can cause less than desirable results. Solution to this, get a massage, take a bubble bath and look at your life and what you can do to relieve your burdens.

Most hair loss does not have to be permanent so do not freak out and obsess over it. If you really are concerned then definitely see a Physician and possibly a Dermatologist. Otherwise, collagen peptides are your friend and they are great for over all health in general. I hope this article finds you well and helps you on your journey to full healthy hair. See ya next time friends!
