How to pick the perfect hairdresser

Choices, choices…

So obviously the answer is me, Emaley from, you guessed it… Emaley’s House of Hair. However, if you do not live in The Woodlands or even the greater Houston area, then you may still be searching for your perfect Stylist. In my humble opinion, the following characteristics will help you find someone that will be able to rock your hair world.

1. Does their social media accounts scream your style? For instance, are all of their pictures of short pixie platinum blondes whereas you are wanting mid length soft balayage? Try to look for someone whose work portfolio is something you would personally love to wear, not just because you admire the flaming red mohawk they did.

2. Do they offer online booking? O.K. so I get that this may not seem like a big deal to you but trust me, online booking is the way to go. You can book your appointment at 4am when you woke up out of a dead sleep realizing you need your greys covered before next weeks meeting… Clearly I advise against waiting till the last minute to book your appointments but life happens so the convenience of online booking really does come in handy.

3. Do they listen during a consultation? Not only do they listen, but do they ask you questions as well? The number one reason that guests leave unhappy is because of miscommunication. Seriously, so many stylists use terminology that means something completely different from one person to the next so visual aids and questions will really help you get the end result that you are looking for.

4. Do they make you feel comfortable? A great hair stylist will help you feel comfortable, excited, encouraged but should never make you feel bullied into doing something you are not comfortable with. You need to feel as though you can trust your stylist, they are the professional and should know what they are doing but you also need to know that they are aware of your likes and dislikes as much as possible.

This may seem like unrealistic expectations but trust me, they are out there. There are so many talented hairstylists out there that actually want to help you feel your best. The best part of my work day is when I am able to make someone feel confident and uplifted after they have had their hair taken care of.
