Going from blonde to brown (or any solid color)

Good afternoon my lovely readers. I was recently asked for a quote on how much it would cost to go from a golden balayage back to a more natural medium brown color. This… is… not… an easy fix, if done correctly that is.

O.K. so maybe its fairly simple but it isn’t the one step process that you would think it would be. You go in to your appointment, you sit down, the stylist applies an all over color and an hour later you are walking out the door a sable beauty, am I right? No. No, I am not right… the problem with this solution is that your hair has been previously highlighted and has had unnatural lifting done so is now more porous, almost like a sponge. That being said, yes, it will be colored over in one simple process and you will achieve the desired result however, it will not last.

Remember that porosity comment? Well, because it has bigger holes (for lack of a better description) It will more easily lose that color during each shampoo at home. This is because you didn’t properly fill the cuticle (the holes).

The best way (slightly more costly, but worth it) would be to first fill the cuticle with whatever toner your colorist decides is necessary for the desired outcome, then rinse, blow dry and finally, apply desired color. Do not fear, this toner is of no extra damage to your hair and can in fact help condition it as well. You will have a much richer end result and it will last so much longer when done properly.

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope to see you soon. As always, your support means the world to me so please continue to share with your friends and family.
