Killer DIY blow out

Oh EM GEE! The Holidays are HERE!! So it’s Christmas Eve and you gotta look awesome for dinner with the in-laws or heck, your own Granny so she won’t start a lengthy conversation about how you have “let yourself go” because you paid “good money” to buy jeans with holes already in them…. ok, sorry, I got distracted with a personal experience of mine… ANYWHO, hopefully with the following tips, you can come as close to a salon quality blow out that you can be without actually going to the salon.

Ok, step one starts with a great foundation, shampoo… If you havent already, go back and read my blog post “Shampooing, and how you might be doing it wrong” this step is very important because it will dictate how well your hair behaves with the following steps.

Step two, primer! Ok, products matter people, I’m not just saying this to sell you a $30 bottle of root lifter (all though I do sell a fantastic one if you are in need wink* wink*). After you have applied leave in conditioner and combed out your hair, while it is still wet make sure to apply a sufficient amount of either a plumping product for fine limp hair or a smoothing lotion for thick frizzy hair and then comb through. Also, apply a root boost product on any area that you would like to have more volume. I’m currently loving the “Raise the root” spray from Color wow.

Section hair off into three parts and use large clips to separate. the front will be divided into two sections starting behind the ear on the sides and down the top of the head along the desired part in front. The back section will be your starting point.

Starting with the back section, take down a portion of the hair the same thickness as the round brush that you will be using. This allows the hair to dry while being directed in the desired style. Make sure the hair is firmly on the brush and with a DOWNWARD motion blow dry each section till completely dry. If you do not dry completely, you will end up with frizzy or limp areas of the hair.

Continue this process working your way up the back section and then moving to the front portions. Start at the front side sections from the bottom up. This is when you can really get creative, do you want a flip up? A wing back? curled under or just straight with volume? Have fun, its a zero commitment change. Keep in mind, the direction of the hair and how it will flow with your style. Try to let each section cool completely before touching it.

Once you have finished this intense upper body work out, use a flat iron to detail or refine whichever pieces that may need to be redirected or smoothed down.

Please note that I never use the word “easy” or “quick” when referencing this activity and that you may be cursing my name by the time you finish…. BUT your hair will look super fab so I’m cool with it.

Have an amazing Holiday season with friends and family and I look forward to 2019, I believe it will be the best year yet for Emaley’s House of Hair.
