What's the big deal about going to bed with wet hair?

So for a lot of you out there, you have a dirty little secret…

You go to bed with WET HAIR!!! Say it isn’t so! I totally get it, you’re tired from a crazy busy day and the kids finally went to sleep and you don’t want to make noise to wake them up or you just wanna crash into bed arms spread out like an airplane… believe me… I FEEL that with every fiber of my being!

However, here are the deets on why that is such a bad idea..

  1. Super flat hair- yep, that’s right limp, blah hair that looks like it needs to be shampoo’d. Because the hair dries smashed against a pillow it creates a bend at the scalp and holds in moisture which gives it the effect of slicked back hair. Good luck reversing that look in the morning!

  2. Dandruff- Well, technically its not dandruff but it is super dry flaky scalp. When the scalp stays packed underneath a head full of wet hair, it tends to get a ton of build up of skin cells and natural oils.

  3. Breakage- Your hair is at its most vulnerable when wet. That being said, if you tie your hair up in a bun or pony tail, you are creating a lot of tension on your precious strands of glory.

  4. Moldy pillows!!- Yeah, super gross! But, think about it… what happens when fabric (especially in Texas) is exposed to moisture for long periods of time on a regular basis…MILDEW which is technically different from mold but still pretty gross…

I know, I have ruined your day… I truly am sorry to rain on your parade and believe me, I have been guilty of sleeping on wet hair as well so I am not being all judgy pants on you… just trying to help a sister out. If you absolutely HAVE to do it, try a few things to soften the effects, such as: sleeping with a satin pillowcase, (everyone should have one) and blow drying just the scalp area to get some air on those precious follicles, and ALWAYS use your leave in conditioner.
